AlohaMac Bread Pudding With Caramel Sauce

Ever since I had my kids Christmas morning has been a time I dedicate to spending with them. No more driving from one relatives home to another. Instead we give an open invitation to any family members wanting to come over in the morning and then host Christmas dinner.

Since a few family members show up outside of our immediate family I love trying new brunch recipes and ideas. And since my dad and step-mom just got back from Hawaii over Thanksgiving I thought it might be nice to treat them to a little taste of the islands with this Hawaiian Host AlohaMac Bread Pudding with Caramel Sauce for Christmastime.

Hawaiian Host milk chocolate macadamia nuts are one of those souvenirs that we’d always make sure to grab a few boxes of when visiting the islands. And now their Milk Chocolate AlohaMacs, as well as other Hawaiian Host favorites, are available at select retailers here on the mainland. I found mine at our local Ralphs!

Now, when I’m craving a chocolate covered macadamia nut I don’t have to fly all the way to Hawaii to enjoy it!

This bread pudding is absolutely delicious. Since I wanted to try it out before Christmas day I decided to make it for my playgroup for our annual Christmas party.

The parents and kids both loved it and I was left with only a few scraps in the pan after every one left. And you better believe I ate those scraps!

I have never made bread pudding before and I wasn’t sure what to expect. But I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was much like my overnight french toast casserole. And the AlohaMac pieces brought a little extra deliciousness to the mix.

I cannot wait to try AlohaMacs in other dishes we create now that I know where to find them! As for this dish, I think I might try it in individual ramekins the next time I make it for our small family.

Hawaiian Host Milk Chocolate AlohaMac Bread Pudding With Caramel Sauce

  • 7 oz . Hawaiian Host Milk Chocolate AlohaMacs (14 pieces)
  • 16 oz . loaf Hawaiian Sweet Bread (1 lb.)
  • 2 cups Heavy cream
  • 1 1/2 cups Granulated sugar
  • 2 cups Milk
  • 2 Large eggs (beaten)
  • 3 Large egg yolks (beaten)
  • 2 tsp . Vanilla extract
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Chop Hawaiian Host Milk Chocolate AlohaMacs.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk the cream, milk, sugar, vanilla, eggs, and egg yolks until well mixed.
  4. Add the chopped Hawaiian Host Milk Chocolate AlohaMacs and the cubed sweet bread to the bowl, gently stirring to coat the cubes.
  5. Set the mixture aside to allow the bread to soak, tossing periodically (about 30-40 minutes).
  6. Place in 350 degree oven for about 45 minutes (test the bread pudding to make sure the top is golden brown and the inside is cooked, but not too dry).
  7. Remove from oven – Spoon helpings into bowls and serve with whipped cream, ice cream or caramel sauce.
Cut bread into cubes the night before and leave out – stale bread soaks up the moisture, but still retains consistency
