Hiking with Toddlers and the @Boba Air Baby Carrier

One thing I’ve come to realize more and more with two children is the necessity of baby wearing. Not only does it allow me to do more activities with my kids, it also allows my family the opportunity to explore and create new memories in places that a stroller just can’t go. Including hiking with toddlers.

This Summer my family and I made the trek up to Mammoth Mountain for a mini vacation with just the 4 of us. Not only is Mammoth gorgeous this time of year, there are so many things to do out there! We took this opportunity to take the kids camping in Yosemite this time around. And while our camping trip was definitely memorable, it isn’t one I’d like to repeat any time soon.

Not only did I end up needed emergency dental work due to the altitude pushing up a crown of mine (abscess under the crown), but the mountain air was just too cold during the night for little ones.

But we did get to take advantage of some great hiking and exploring while we were in Yosemite and Mammoth! So ignore my puffy face and enjoy the gorgeous views we were able to take in. I wouldn’t have been able to enjoy all that we did without the help of our Boba Air.

The Perfect Carrier for On-The-Go Adventures

After two kids I’ve had a myriad of carriers. But my favorite by-far is my Boba Carrier 3G. Not only is it comfortable and supportive, but it’s allowed me to go from carrying my son to my daughter seamlessly. After finding the 3G so easy to use, my husband has actually worn my daughter a few times.

I thought it’d be great if we could have two carriers for our trip in case we wanted to go hiking on our trip. With two kids one is always bound to start complaining about being tired and want to be held. What easier way to hold them than to strap them to your back, right?

So we started looking for a great, lightweight option for us to have on hand just in case. That’s when I found the Boba Air. Seriously… this carrier is genius! When not in use you simply fold it into the pouch and zip it up. You can throw it into a backpack, stow it in the car, or even carry it around in your purse. It’s that small! Simply put, this is the carrier for on-the-go parents.

Boba Air Features

Even if you have another carrier, keeping the Boba Air around just in case is a great way to plan.

Here’s why we love our Boba Air:

  • Great for babies/toddlers between 15-45lbs
  • Compact & Self Storing
  • Front OR Back Carry
  • Nylon
  • Sleeping Hood & Pocket

As I’ve mentioned before, this carrier is small and lightweight. It only weighs 0.7lbs! Now that is small. And being compact means it can fit anywhere.

While hiking, my daughter wanted to be on my back when awake and on my front when she wanted to nap. This was no problem with the Boba Air because it can do both. And both ways are comfortable for both users.

When she slept I simply put up the sleeping hood and she took her full nap on me as we enjoyed the scenery.

The material used for the Boba Air is nylon. This makes it easy to clean and durable. Its also thin and lightweight enough to allow stuffing back into the pouch for compact storage.

This carrier is designed for everyone! All sizes and shapes. And no extension belt is needed. All of the straps are fully adjustable so that my husband and I can easily grab the carrier, adjust and go with no problems. And extra straps can simply be tucked into the elastic bands.

If you’re looking for a great, lightweight carrier to keep around just in case or while you’re traveling, I highly suggest checking out the Boba Air.  We’re definitely a Boba family after our experience with both of these carriers. I couldn’t find myself wanting to use any other carrier!

Not only are these carriers easy to use, they allow me to be closer to my children, knowing where they are at all times. And the time spent with them at this age will be cherished forever.

  1. I did a lot of hiking when my son was young, but not when he was a baby. I wish these products had been available then.

  2. It looks like the carrier makes it much easier!

  3. Your little one looks so comfortable in there. My son loved his sling!

  4. This is a great looking carrier. So much better than the ones they used to have. I hated them, and we dumped them after our first child–in 1984! When that one child gets married next year, and she has her first, this will be on my list to give to her as a shower gift. Thanks!

I need to be able to do things around the house and he loves being in my arms, otherwise he cries and I cannot let him cry so this Boba carrier would help me a lot! 🙂 Thanks for the review & info , i very much needed it!

I love how compact the carrier is when storing. I am constantly wishing I had my carrier with me but it is too big to carry in the diaper bag all the time.

  12. Looks like a great carrier!

  13. Love that it can be for front or back carry!

  14. I loved being able to have my arms/hands free when holding my little ones with a baby carrier.

  15. I can’t believe how small and light it is! I wonder how it is compared to other carriers with regard to how hot you and the child get being up against each other.

We love hiking and we love to babywear! These carriers look so comfortable for both mom and child!

  17. I am glad to know that it works well with hikes. We have a 2 1/2 yr old and a 7 mo old and plan to hike this summer. We currently have an Ergo performance, which was great for hiking in previous years but being a baby carrier addict wanted to try something and have heard such great things about the Boba. How comfortable is it compared with the Ergo’s padded straps?
