Thanksgiving Turkey Hand Craft

Thanksgiving Turkey Hand Craft

I absolutely love the simple crafts that I can do with the kids to prepare them for the holidays, like this turkey hand craft.

This past week we’ve been working on what we’re thankful for. We’re so thankful for how much we’ve all grown over the past year. My son is thankful that he’s taller and can ride more rides at Disneyland and my daughter must be thankful for the fact that she’s found her voice because she does not want to stop talking!

And I’m thankful for the milestones and memories we’ve made over this past year. In an effort to spruce up our mantel for this month of thanks giving, I’ve returned the turkey hand craft we made last year to remind me of how much my kids have grown this past year.

Here’s how you make it: [Read more…]

Ever have potatoes lying around that are starting to grow eyes and you just grab them and toss them? Well stop! I’ll show you how you can turn those questionable spuds into a fun craft for your kids with these DIY potato stamps!

Simply grab some washable paint, some paper plates, a few taters and a small knife for carving. Then decide what you want to stamp on.

Get ready for some fun…

DIY Potato Stamps

What you need:

  • potatoes
  • small pairing knife or pumpkin carving knife
  • paper plates
  • washable paint
  • surface to stamp (paper, cloth, etc)

What you do:

1. Cut the potato in half.

2. Decide what you’re going to cut and cut out the outline leaving a good portion of the potato left to grab onto. Since we were making Halloween treat bags on Halloween we went with pumpkins.

*Tip: Use a small cookie cutter to make your shape. Push the cookie cutter in about 1/4 of an inch deep and then while the cookie cutter is still in the potato, use a knife to cut off the excess.

3. Cut out the design you want in your potato. We went festive with these jack-o-lanterns for the treat bags. But anything can be carved out and made into a stamp!

4. Grab the paper plates and paint and get stamping!

Chalkboard Easter Eggs

Chalkboard Easter Eggs

With Lent here Easter is just around the corner and that means that the Easter decorations start coming out. Our egg wreath is on the door, spring mantel is put in place, and a few crafts are ready to be made. Including these chalkboard Easter eggs.

Not only are these easy to make, they’re lots of fun for the kids! And the perfect way to keep the kiddy table at Easter brunch entertained.

My kids love that they can write their own Easter egg designs on the eggs and then wipe them off and start again. And it’s a great way for the kids to practice writing their names! [Read more…]

Craft Stick Christmas Tree

craft stick christmas tree

Remember when I shared with you what my daughter wanted us to make the other week? Well she also requested we make a craft stick Christmas tree as well after we finished with our snowmen. Since we already had everything out I figured why not?

She had such a fun time coloring the sticks, and gluing everything together, that she completely forgot about the cookie she asked for when we first started. Now that’s a win!

As we were crafting I snuck some carrot sticks and apple slices on the table and she happily munched on them non-the-wiser. And we now have some awesome Christmas trees to fling at gift to people. [Read more…]

Craft Stick Snowman Ornament

My kids love to craft. And sometimes they ask to make random things. This past week I had a day with just my daughter and asked her what she wanted to do. Her answer? She wanted to make snowmen. In September. In 80 degree weather.

Being the awesome mom that I am (i.e. hoarder of all craft supplies) I dug into my collection of random crap supplies and we created the perfect craft stick snowman ornament. She made one and so did I.

Even though it’s not technically Winter – I mean we just arrived into Fall – we had a great time crafting together and created some pretty cute snowmen. I’m sure grandma will appreciate them! [Read more…]

DIY Father’s Day Gift Ideas

DIY Father's Day Gift Ideas collage

Every Father’s Day I sit and wrack my brain with what I think would be the perfect gift to give my husband. Would he love his favorite TV series on DVD? Does he want to go somewhere and make a day out of it? Or does he love the cute, homemade gifts I have the kids make him every year?

So I decided I’d come up with a plan this year. Each child gets to pick out something to give him from either the store or online (I can still direct them to things he’s interested in or has asked for) and then we’ll make something for him.

And of course I turn to the internets for great ideas on what to do for Dad. So if you’re looking for great gifts the kids can make Dad for Father’s Day, look no further.

Check out these DIY Father’s Day gift ideas and find something for every age child!

How to Make Dinosaur Party Hats

Find out how easy it is to make a dinosaur party hat with this template and some paper.

When planning my son’s Dinosaur Train birthday party I stumbled upon an Etsy store with printables for everything Dinosaur (you can check them out in detail on her blog). One of the things included in the kit was a dinosaur party hat.

Since I wanted to make my party unique I opted out of purchasing the kit but I did find a way to make those adorable party hats! I used a template I found from Oh Happy Day for the base of the hat, picked up some cute cardstock from Michaels and got cutting and piecing together.

Here’s what I came up with!

Dinosaur Party Hats

What you’ll need:

What you do:

1. Print template onto cardstock (save 1-2 colors for the spikes).

2. Cut out the template by following the solid black lines.

3. Cut out the slit on the template.

4. Roll hat together and place tab into the slit. You may have to bend the top tab a bit to get it to fit. Once the tab is in, lift the top tab again so it doesn’t slide out.

5. Cut out spikes leaving a 1/4″ space at the bottom of each spike row.

6. Bend spike row on the bottom at the 1/4″ mark and cut the middle of the spikes to slide into the slot.

7. Tape spikes down from the outside and inside of the hat.

8. Using the X-Acto knife, make a small X on either side of the hat.

9. Place the ribbon or string in each hole and knot on the inside.

10. Decorate the hat more from here or leave as is for the perfect Dinosaur Party hat.
