You know how I’ve mentioned a few times before how obsessed my son is with Minecraft? Well in an effort to continue the tradition and make handmade valentines for the kids, I wracked my brain to try and think of ideas to make Minecraft valentines. I couldn’t figure out what to use as the treat, edible or non-edible.

And then as my son was building another world and digging through the ground, it hit me. A Minecraft miner valentine! And I could use Hershey’s nuggets as the treat. I thought the gold would be perfect. And then my son reminded me that you can also mine for silver. So I grabbed some milk chocolate Hershey’s nuggets to go along with the chocolate with almond for the kids who don’t eat nuts. Luckily there are no allergies in his classroom.

These valentines were super easy to make. I used the same process I have in the past and made them in PicMonkey. And while it took a little more work adding each additional square to make the background look pixelated, it was totally worth it! I love how much fun these valentines are to make every year. I sure hope my kids continue to want me to make their valentines (or take over completely themselves!).

10 Reasons Why You Should Send Cookies for Valentines Day + A Printable Cookies and Milk Valentine

This post featuring a free milk and cookies valentine printable plus 10 reasons why you should send cookies for Valentine’s Day is sponsored by Cookie’s by Design.

When my husband and I were first dating, I started to send him a Cookie’s by Design cookie bouquet for Valentine’s Day. It was a special way for me to show him my love and a little less embarrassing than a flower bouquet for a man. At the beginning of our relationship, it was just a cute mug cookie bouquet (we still have some of those mugs!). But as the years went by the bouquets increased in size as our relationship grew.

With 3 kids at home, that mug bouquet just won’t cut it. Because when my husband brings his gift home from work, 3 eager eyes watch him as he puts down the bouquet. He can’t help himself from sharing with them! And I don’t blame them for wanting in on some of that goodness!

Even though there are flowers and chocolates and so many other ways to show your loved ones you care on Valentine’s Day, the one way we show each other how we care is through cookies! Here are a few reasons why you should send cookies for Valentine’s Day too!

10 Reasons Why You Should Send Cookies for Valentines Day

1. Cookies are delicious. We all know this. But Cookie’s By Design cookies are baked fresh AND hand decorated.

2. You can share with friends (or your kids)!

3. Each basket is made to order and can be personalized with messages or images printed right on the cookies.

4. You can’t eat flowers. But you can eat cookies.

5. Cookie’s by Design cookie bouquets come in so many different varieties and designs. They even launched handcrafted cookie gift baskets featuring Build-A-Bear Workshop teddy bears. Perfect for the kids!

6. They deliver right to your door. Cookie’s By Design creations are always hand delivered and handled with care.

7. You can even get them delivered as early as the same day. Cookie’s By Design offers same-day gift delivery on most of their hand decorated cookie bouquets.

8. You can also pick them up locally at your closest Cookie’s By Design location (for those who procrastinated).

9. These cookie bouquets don’t wilt.

10. Once the cookies are gone, the Build-A-Bear Workshop teddy bears last for years to come.

Did you order your Cookie’s By Design Valentine’s Day cookie bouquet? Pair it with this cute printable valentine that you can print out on a 5×7 card to make your gift complete!

Cookie’s By Design is the original cookie bouquet company and they offer custom-designed, hand-decorated cookie arrangements, gift baskets, cookie cakes and cookie trays for every occasion.

Last-minute gift givers can still wow their sweetie with ready-made Build-A- Bear Workshop baskets available at most Cookie’s By Design locations. The new baskets are available to order now at all Cookies by Design locations and online at cookiesbydesign.com and baskets can be hand-delivered the same day or customized and delivered within a day.

Tic Tac Toe Valentines Day Printables

When it came to Truth or Dare when I was in school, I’d always lean towards a truth. I don’t know what it was about dares that made me skeptical about accepting them but I always thought a truth would allow me a little safety. I mean, come on, I am already a pretty open book! But this month I’m sharing a few dares with you. And super cute tic tac toe valentines you can use in a few weeks! Added bonus? They’re non-edible so they work for preschoolers and school agers.

We Dare You is a campaign that dares people to live healthier and happier lives every day, one step at a time. Each month, United Healthcare poses three simple dares to the public to participate in. For the upcoming month of February, the dares revolve around taking control of your health care plan. Definitely something I’d like to know more about.

Bugs and Kisses Valentines with Customized Ribbon

Bugs and Kisses Valentines

My son is obsessed with bugs. So much so that he tells everyone that he’s going to be an entomologist when he grows up. And he’s serious. I totally believe it.

When we were deciding what to make or Valentine’s Day to pass out to his classmates he said he wanted to include gummy worms. They’re one of his favorite treats and pair perfectly with Hershey’s Kisses for our bugs and kisses valentines.

As soon as we had our idea it was so simple to put our valentines together.

How to Make Valentines with PicMonkey

A few weeks back I shared my love of PicMonkey with you all with a quick tutorial on how to make Subway Art using PicMonkey. Well I’m back again proclaiming my love but this time with all of the new Valentine’s Day options PicMonkey has available to use!

Now you don’t need to purchase ANYTHING to use PicMonkey. It’s completely free. But if you want to take advantage of the Royale features you can pay $33/year for access to everything. How awesome is that?

Using the new Valentine’s Day features like swatches, ribbons, and fonts, I was able to create some simple and cute valentines for my kids to pass out at their preschool. With PicMonkey I was able to create what I wanted in less than 15 minutes of playing around. Once I was done I assembled the valentines and am now set for the big day!

Want to learn how to make valentines with PicMonkey? Well keep reading and you’ll find out!

How to Make Valentines With PicMonkey collage

1. Just like in the Subway Art tutorial I’ve shared previously, we’re going to start by clicking on “Create a Collage” first. Remove all cells but one from the collage. This will be your template. Adjust the size accordingly if you want larger or smaller valentines.

Heart Shaped Crayon Valentines {DIY Tutorial}

Crayon Heart Valentines

I first saw the crayon heart valentines on the Family Fun website. I thought they looked adorable but didn’t have a heart mold so I figured I’d just send the regular store-bought valentines instead since I had a few I purchased on clearance a few years back. Then we went to Target and I saw the heart molds in the dollar section of the store and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity. Plus they were all over Pinterest!

So I went to the store, stocked up on a mold and crayons and headed home to do some experimenting. Before I started I did a little research to see what others were saying about the craft. I try not to just jump into a tutorial without reading about it from a few others first. That can lead to disaster (or just make it harder on me since others have found key tips/tricks on making it easier). Once I got the low-down I headed to the kitchen to soak, unwrap, break and bake! And here’s what I did:

Heart Shaped Crayon Valentines {DIY Tutorial}

What you’ll need:

  • 1 box crayons, unwrapped (or left over broken crayons laying around)
  • 1-2 heart molds, choose your size
  • Construction Paper
  • Alphabet stamps OR printer
  • Adhesive dots

What you do:

1. Place your crayons in a heat proof dish & preheat oven to 250 degrees.

2. Heat up some water and pour warm water on crayons (note: do not use boiling water… crayons might melt).

Crayon Heart Valentines 2

3. Let crayons soak for 30 seconds (see what happens when your water’s too hot?).

Crayon Heart Valentines 4

4. Unwrap crayons (any that didn’t unwrap easily after soaking are set aside and not used).

Crayon Heart Valentines 3

5. Put crayons in a dish and let kids break them up into small, tiny pieces (or put them in a bag and hammer with a kitchen mallet or meat tenderizer until broken up).

Crayon Heart Valentines 5

6. Place heart molds on a rimmed baking sheet and fill with broken crayon pieces.

Crayon Heart Valentines 6

7. Place tray in oven and bake for 15-18 minutes or until crayons are fully melted. Then carefully take out of oven and set aside to harden.

Crayon Heart Valentines 8

8. Once cooled completely pop crayons out of molds and smooth edges by rubbing against a piece of paper.

Please note: The silicone mold may be stained and should only be used for crafts once you melt crayons in them. They are not food safe after used for crafts.

9. Now’s the fun part! You can decide what you want to do with the crayons once you’ve baked them. I decided to use scrapbooking paper I already had in the house to create a postcard sized Valentine for my son. You can use this printable here for a square valentine with the writing already on the paper or this printable here for a circle valentine (you just have to add your child’s name).

Crayon Heart Valentines

Or you can do what I did and use an alphabet stamp set to customize the sayings you put on each valentine. I simply adhered the crayon to a square piece of scrapbook paper with a glue dot and than layered that onto a larger postcard size piece of scrapbook paper. Then I stamped the sayings I wanted as well as my son’s name to personalize it. You can also have your child decorate the postcard paper by drawing or coloring on it before you stamp out your sayings. You can find more sayings here (as well as more printable options!).

The possibilities and variations really are endless with this craft. And the kids have a great time helping you make them too. Much more personal then a store-bought valentine and twice as cute!

Does your child love to draw?
