Ever since my son was little, maybe 15 months or so, he’s been obsessed with dinosaurs. And that all started when he watched his first episode of Dinosaur Train on PBS. So it was no surprise when I asked him what he wanted to pass out on Valentine’s Day and he said dinos.

So I headed to the dollar store (his favorite place to pick up dinos other than Target) and grabbed 10 dinos. Then I whipped up a dinosaur valentine printable using picmonkey. Want to make your own printable? Follow my instructions here!

After that, assembling the valentines was simple and took all of 10 minutes from start to finish. And now I don’t have to worry about either kid for Valentine’s Day (since I finished my daughter’s last week).

How to Make Valentines with PicMonkey

A few weeks back I shared my love of PicMonkey with you all with a quick tutorial on how to make Subway Art using PicMonkey. Well I’m back again proclaiming my love but this time with all of the new Valentine’s Day options PicMonkey has available to use!

Now you don’t need to purchase ANYTHING to use PicMonkey. It’s completely free. But if you want to take advantage of the Royale features you can pay $33/year for access to everything. How awesome is that?

Using the new Valentine’s Day features like swatches, ribbons, and fonts, I was able to create some simple and cute valentines for my kids to pass out at their preschool. With PicMonkey I was able to create what I wanted in less than 15 minutes of playing around. Once I was done I assembled the valentines and am now set for the big day!

Want to learn how to make valentines with PicMonkey? Well keep reading and you’ll find out!

Make DIY Dinosaur Fossils for Your Dinosaur Party

Find out how easy it is to make DIY dinosaur fossils for your next dinosaur birthday party or activity!

When I started planning activities to do at my son’s dinosaur themed 3rd birthday party I knew I had to have something fun that both the boys and girls would like. Since his party was a dinosaur train theme I started scouring the internet for great ideas on crafts my son and I could create together for the party.

After searching around a bit we found a great recipe for do-it-yourself dinosaur fossils! As soon as I showed my son the fossils he was all aboard. And then when I told him he’d have to help make them he quickly ran to grab the measuring cups and flour.

The fossils were a big hit at the party and the kids took turns finding them all over the indoor play place we were at. Then they took all of the fossils to two buckets we had set out and started opening their fossils to reveal tiny plastic dinos inside.

DIY Dinosaur Fossils

What You’ll Need:

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup dirt
  • 1/2 cup sand (play sand works the best)
  • 1 cup water
  • 12 tiny plastic dinosaurs
  • Plastic wrap-lined cookie tray

What you do:

1. Dump the flour, dirt, and sand into a bowl.

2. Pour the water over the dirt mixture.

3. Stir the mixture together until it’s a thick muddy batter-like consistency.

4. Add more dirt, sand, and flour as needed if too liquidy.

5. Let your kids dip in the dinos and coat them well.

5. Place on plastic wrap-lined cookie tray and cover with a little more of the mixture to make sure it’s coated very well. Cover up any parts that may be sticking out.

6. Let the mixture sit out in the sun for a few hours to dry. Once the top side is dry flip each fossil over and let the other side dry completely.

7. Let the kids have fun breaking the fossils apart!

You know how I’ve mentioned a few times before how obsessed my son is with Minecraft? Well in an effort to continue the tradition and make handmade valentines for the kids, I wracked my brain to try and think of ideas to make Minecraft valentines. I couldn’t figure out what to use as the treat, edible or non-edible.

And then as my son was building another world and digging through the ground, it hit me. A Minecraft miner valentine! And I could use Hershey’s nuggets as the treat. I thought the gold would be perfect. And then my son reminded me that you can also mine for silver. So I grabbed some milk chocolate Hershey’s nuggets to go along with the chocolate with almond for the kids who don’t eat nuts. Luckily there are no allergies in his classroom.

These valentines were super easy to make. I used the same process I have in the past and made them in PicMonkey. And while it took a little more work adding each additional square to make the background look pixelated, it was totally worth it! I love how much fun these valentines are to make every year. I sure hope my kids continue to want me to make their valentines (or take over completely themselves!).

Popcorn Valentine’s Day Printable + 7 More FREE Valentine Printables

This popcorn valentine’s day printable makes putting together valentines for the class easy and fun!

One of my favorite holidays is Valentine’s Day. I love seeing my kids excited about sharing little treats and goodies with their friends and enjoy celebrating what we love about one another on this day. What I also love doing is brainstorming with each kid and deciding what type of valentine they want to create.

Now we’ve been making our own Valentine’s Day printables since my oldest was in preschool so it’s a tradition to share what we make every year. And this year is the first year my son has requested a food instead of a theme. We were shopping at Target and went down the snack aisle and he saw a large bag of individual popcorns. He asked if he could pass that out this year and I couldn’t say no.

So we got home and I put together this simple printable using PicMonkey. Then I printed two sheets out for his 12 classmates and let him do the rest!

Bubble Gum Valentine Printable – Perfect for Preschoolers!

Over the years we’ve gotten a bit creative with our valentines and this year is no different. I let the kids decide what they want to pass out (within reason) and then we start creating. So when my daughter said she wanted to pass out bubble gum, I knew this bubble gum valentine printable would come in handy.

Last year we made some cutie valentines and car valentines so this year I wanted to stick with the no-candy theme. My son will be making his dinosaur themed valentines this weekend so stay tuned for those!

Everything I used for these valentines were found at Target. The foam hearts were on an end cap in the party supplies section and the gum was in the snack aisle. And? These took like 10 minutes to put together!
