Fun and Educational Apps for Kids from PBS Kids

Educational Apps for Kids

With both of my kids attending an in-home preschool I’ve found that I’m looking for ways to motivate them to learn through play. And since they’re starting to love playing games on their father’s iPad I’m always in search of great apps that are both fun and educational.

Luckily PBS Kids has a wide selection of apps for kids of all ages that range in a number of topics. From math, to music, to language, the PBS Kids apps are my go-to apps for learning fun with the kids.

Here are a few we recently downloaded thanks to PBS Kids and are loving:

1. Wild Kratts Creature Math –

Practice addition and subtraction skills with your favorite pair of brothers – the Kratts! With Wild Kratts Creature Math ($1.99 on the iPad) kids will learn both math and science skills, as well as fun facts about animals across the world.

Even though my son is 4 and isn’t using addition or subtraction yet, this is an app we can do together to work on counting. He’s absolutely obsessed with Wild Kratts so playing this piques his interest and is helping him with his numbers. Win win!

2. Play at Home with Daniel

Make everyday experiences interactive with Play at Home with Daniel ($1.99 via iOS, Nook, Kindle, and Android). Parents can even join on the fun as kids visit the doctor, get ready for bed, and more with Daniel Tiger!

My 2 year old daughter especially loves the musical interactive part of this app where she can match the beats to Daniel Tiger’s mood. From happy to sad to mad, the music changes as Daniel’s mood changes. We can work on talking about our feelings together while making some tunes.

3.Sid the Science Kid Read & Play

Focus on vocabulary and reading with Sid the Science Kid Read & Play ($3.99 on the iPhone, iPod, and iPad). Kids can read, color, and sing along with this educational storybook!

Now this is an app that both of my kids love playing together. They love interacting with Sid and the gang and have gotten quite good at navigating through the app to do their favorite tasks. Plus they’re working on reading and language as well as colors.
