Last weekend we hosted a playoffs party for our family and friends and in the excitement of the game I went all out with the decor. That includes this awesome diy football pennant banner. It was so easy to make and, in my opinion, much cuter than the stuff they had at the store!
Plus if you have most of the supplies lying around it costs next to nothing to make!
I enjoyed working with this cute sparkly corrugated paper from Jo-Ann’s and thought it gave a slightly feminine touch to this masculine party.
DIY Football Pennant Banner
What you’ll need:
- brown and white cardstock (1 sheet of white, and about 3-4 12×12 sheets of brown for an 8 foot banner)
- Diamond Cut Slotted Ruler or ruler
- rotary cutter or scissors
- string (I found this awesome 16ft parachute cord at Jo-Ann’s)
- single hole punch
- low temp glue gun
1. With your rotary cutter, or a pair of scissors, cut out 6 full size diamonds from brown paper (measuring 6″ on each side) using the diamond template as a guide. Or use a ruler to make diamonds with 6 inch sides.
2. Cut each diamond in half to create a pennant. Using the rotary cutter, a paper cutter, or your scissors, cut out the laces from the white paper (one 4″ x 1/4″ and 4 2″ x 1/4″ per each pennant). Glue the larger piece down first using the glue gun, place 4 smaller pieces on top and glue in place.
3. Punch holes into the two top corners of every pennant. Cut parachute cord to 8 feet and lace cord into pennants from the left corner to the right placing the cord behind the pennant. Once all of the pennants are laced, tie a loop on each end for hanging.
what a cute idea! Love the texture you chose – so life like to a real football!
That is so cute! I had only been thinking about food for the Super Bowl and hadn’t thought about decorations – Might be time to run to the dollar store or craft store!!
Probably won’t be decorating this year. Most likely won’t be having anyone over. My husband and son will watch the game and I’ll watch the commercials and half-time show.
What a fabulous unique idea! This would be great for a birthday party as well
Don’t you just love rotary cutters? Best invention ever! I’m not sure what we’re doing for the Super Bowl and whether I’ll be decorating or not but I can tell you, I’m “borrowing” your pennant idea. Too cute!
