You know when you discover a product and a ton of ideas come running to your head about how to use it? Well when I first heard about Hershey’s Spreads I knew I wanted to make donuts. And not just any donuts… chocolate almond donuts!

Since getting my new donut maker the kids and I have been trying new donut recipes hoping to find the perfect one. And I think we’ve found it!

You see, every Sunday we head to the Church hall for donuts after Mass. But sometimes they don’t have any donuts. So on those days we come home and make them ourselves. And my daughter goes crazy for chocolate donuts.

Chocolate Almond Donuts hershey's spreads

Enter Herhsey’s Spreads chocolate with almond and chocolate with hazelnut. The perfect addition to a classic cake donut base. And a great way to turn an ordinary donut into an extraordinary one.

Chocolate Almond Donuts ingredients

The batter for these donuts took no time at all to make. I was able to whisk the Hershey’s Spread in the batter with a whisk and everything came together smoothly.

To make sure my donuts were uniform, I used a piping bag to put the batter in the wells of my donut maker. This recipe made 10 perfect little donuts.

But if you do love a good frosted donut then this glaze recipe is the perfect pairing. This recipe does make a bit of glaze so you’ll probably have leftovers. It tastes amazing drizzled over ice cream.

Chocolate Almond Donuts with Chocolate Glaze

For the Donuts

  • 1/2 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 cup heavy cream
  • 1/8 cup low fat milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup Hershey's Spreads chocolate with almonds

For the Glaze

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/8 cup heavy cream
  • 1/8 cup low fat milk
  • 1 tablespoon corn syrup
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1/4 cup Hershey's Spreads chocolate with almonds
  • 2 cups powdered sugar (sifted)
  • slivered almonds for garnish
  1. Preheat donut maker.
  2. Mix together flour, sugar, baking powder and salt in a small bowl. In a separate bowl mix together cream, milk, egg and vanilla. Whisk in chocolate until batter is smooth and add flour mixture to chocolate mixture.
  3. Add batter to a piping bag and secure end of bag with a rubber band. Cut off the tip of the bag and pipe batter into wells of donut maker. Let cook until indicator light on donut maker says they’re done.
  4. Let cool on wire rack as you repeat with the next 10 donuts.
  5. While donuts are cool, start to make glaze. Add butter, milk, cream, corn syrup, and vanilla in a medium sauce pan. Cook on medium until fully melted. Reduce heat and add chocolate. Cook until well incorporated.
  6. Remove pan from heat and whisk in powdered sugar until glaze is thick. Dip cooled donuts into glaze and turn over onto wire rack. Sprinkle with slivered almonds and let glaze set.

Chocolate Almond Donuts close up

My kids loved the donuts and so did I! they were tasty, took little time to make (maybe 30 minutes?), and were gone in seconds! I’d call that a success.

We also made a second batch with the chocolate with hazelnut spread as well. Again, so good!
