Tax time is a huge deal in our home. Since I am self employed I need to figure out all of my expenses, income, write offs, etc on top of what my husband makes and it’s pretty time consuming. With all the work put into filing our taxes, we do still get a small return back to spend on something fun. And since we’re working on lowering our monthly expenses, that something fun will be the lowest priced unlimited plans at Walmart.
When all’s finally said and done – after we file our taxes and figure out how to lower our monthly expenses – I finally get me time again to do the things I love. That me time is something I desperately need with two small kids at home. Time to enjoy my favorite hobbies without worrying about bills, taxes, and going over our monthly budget.
For the past 10 years my husband and I have been grandfathered in to a plan with our current mobile carrier. We deal with the high monthly cost, limited texting (200 texts per month each??), and have to purchase new phones for full retail value if we want to upgrade. All in an effort to keep our grandfathered unlimited data.
Luckily I’ve been asking around and I’ve been told that Walmart has an even better plan that will give us our unlimited data WITH unlimited talk and text as well. All for only $39.88 a month.
I needed to head over to our local Walmart and check the plan and phones out for myself! If this was the plan for us I needed to test it out first.
When I got to the store I headed to the electronics department and perused their selection of Walmart Family Mobile phones. I was pleasantly surprised to find that they carried a variety of smartphones for under $100. I would be able to access all of my favorite apps and not worry about going over my texts for the month.
Since we’re testing the plan out to see if it works before completely switching over, I decided to pick up the Concord phone. It was the least expensive smart phone at only $49.88 and had everything I needed.
Once I grabbed the phone and a starter kit I was ready to head home and set up our new plan.
Set up was easy and took literally 10 minutes from start to finish. Once everything was set up I plugged in my phone and waited for it to charge. While the phone was charging I decided to make a cute phone cover for it.
Because who doesn’t need a cute phone cover?
Due to the craziness of life the past few months – the holidays, prepping for taxes, an increase in work – I’ve had to put off a few of my favorite hobbies. And one of those hobbies is crocheting.
While the kids were out with Grandma, and I was left to wait for my new phone to charge before I could play with it, I grabbed a few skeins of yarn and created a cute Instagram phone cover.
I mean I already tackled filing our taxes, lowering our monthly phone bill, and cleaning up after my son’s birthday party. I deserved this time to play with yarn!
Knowing that tax season is behind us and that we’re staying within our monthly budget with this new phone plan gives me peace of mind and allows me to have the much needed me time I need right now.
The Walmart Family Mobile plans are the perfect way to enjoy all of the benefits of a smartphone without having to pay the hefty price tag other carriers have. And it’s a great way to spend your tax return if you’re receiving money back.
With the affordable smartphones for under $100, great monthly rates (without contracts), and helpful customer service, Walmart Family Mobile sounds like a great solution to lowering our monthly phone bill.

Very nice cover! Wondering if you sale any of them and for how much?
No, I don’t sell them. But they’re very easy to make! If you know someone who crochets they can easily download my pattern (on the sidebar there’s a link).
This just reminds me that I really should shop around more for better cell plan deals. I’ve been somewhat complacent in my current plan, but, I know I’m overpaying. I’m pretty much on board with all of Walmart’s deals.
okay, your crocheting skills are awesome! love that phone case! and, we use at&t, but are going to be switching as soon as our contract ends! thanks for giving me something else to check out!
Enjoy your new phone! I do usually get a return and this year we are putting all money on our mortgage. Big plans to be debt free in 4 years.
Sounds like a great deal! I love your case!
The fact that you were able to have time to knit that phone cover says a lot! Haha I love it. I can’t wait to get a Walmart family phone.
House renovations! That’s how I’ll be spending it. 😀 If I get much back that is.
Oh my goodness, love your phone case – reminds me of Instagram!
Great use of your tax money and such an adorable phone cover!
Ever since I moved into Manhattan I no longer have a Walmart that I can go to. It looks like a good plan though.
I love that phone cover! I didn’t realize that Walmart sold cell phone plans. I wonder if they do here too….
I never get a refund anymore now that I’m self-employed. I only just finished paying off last year’s return a couple months ago. Tax season is starting next month!
