When we asked my daughter what she wanted to be for Halloween a few months back she quickly answered that she wanted to be a butterfly.
When we asked again a few weeks later, you know… just to be sure, she still confirmed that she wanted to be a butterfly. So I got to searching different designs, patterns, fabrics, etc. and scouring Pinterest.
Then she took it upon herself to figure out her own costume. And it cost us $5 out of pocket. That $5? Was for the wings. Everything else she dragged out of her closet.
And she LOVES how it turned out. Don’t you? Now to get started on my son’s dinosaur costume… That’ll probably take more time.
DIY Butterfly Costume
- butterfly wings (found ours for $5 at Target)
- antennae (a headband and 2 black pipe cleaners)
- tutu or petticoat in matching colors
- tight shirt (long sleeved if it’s cold)
- leggings
Put on the shirt and leggings. Wear tutu over leggings and shirt. Add wings and adjust to fit.
Put headband antennae on head and you’re set!
Oh, that just makes me want a girl. I had two sons, and now two grandsons. Love them all but really missed the fun you can have with girls!
I love her costume! My daughter would love this for everyday play. And love that it is so simple!
I swear, I’m a horrible mom. My daughter told me yesterday what she wanted to be for Halloween and I totally forgot. I need to get both of my kids costume together so I’m not waiting till the last minute. Cute butterfly costume.
CUTE! What a great idea! If I didn’t already have a ladybug costume for Natalie, I would totally use this.. Pinning for next year! 🙂
So cute! I love this! And your daughter is just precious!
WOW, this is super easy!!!! AND cute. I should do this for my toddler. 🙂 Thanks!
That is so cute!!! if I can find a nice tutu, I think this is what i”m going to have my daughter be for halloween! it’s adorable!
Our son wanted to be a carrot, but I was able to convince him to be a doctor since he’s in love with Doc McStuffins.
So we’re getting a medical coat and doctor kit.
I really wish that I had a girl – this costume is so cute! My son is going to be an astronaut…very pricey!
It’s so much more fun making your own costumes. I used to make most of ours for my two girls for all the different occasions that cropped up and personally I think they look great because you can personalize them towards your child and they are more original!!!
