We recently headed out for a couples weekend without the kids here in town and the kids headed over to Grandma’s for a sleepover. My daughter has been requesting sleepovers for the past few weeks and was really concerned about what to pack for a sleepover at Grandma’s house. She wanted to make sure she had everything she’d need.
So we sat down and thought of a few things she might bring to help make her feel more comfortable at night when the transition from fun adventure to actually sleeping happened. She couldn’t leave our house without a few of her favorite things.
She’s obsessed about all things princess so she couldn’t leave the house without her new favorite movie – Sophia the First: The Floating Palace – and her Disney princesses. Since she’s only allowed to bring one toy, she chose Cinderella. But she was tempted to bring Tiana. Find out what important things she packed for her trip to Grandma’s below.
5 Things to Pack for a Sleepover at Grandma’s House
- Favorite Pajamas – Whether it’s a new pair or a pair that’s my kids favorite, pjs are a big deal when they head over to Grandma’s house for a sleepover.
- Favorite Toy – Each child gets to choose their favorite toy at that moment to bring with them to Grandma’s to play with. Sure their grandma has a lot of toys for them to play with, but they love including their toys in on the fun. My daughter prefers to have her princesses tag along with her.
- Lovey or Blanket – To make it easier for my kids to transition, we always let them pick out something that reminded them of home so they could feel connected to us even though they were at Grandma’s.
- Books – My kids love storytime before bedtime. It’s our routine. So when they head to Grandma’s they load their backpacks up with 3 of their favorite books for Grandma and Grandpa to read to them.
- Favorite Movie – Going over to Grandma’s house is a special occasion. And my kids love bringing along one of their favorite movies – like my daughter’s new Sophia the First: The Floating Palace movie out now!- to share with Grandma.

So cute! We miss having grandparents to drop our kids off to!! Great ideas!
Great list!! Thanks for sharing!
We’re pretty lucky that my daughter has her own room at her Grandparent’s houses so she doesn’t really need to worry about bringing anything! I guess that’s the life of an only grandchild on both sides.
This is a great list. I am always in the middle chaos loading the kids up from grandma weekend fun. Thank you for the tips.
Such a great list! Spending the night at my gram’s was one of my most favorite things to do when I was a kid. 🙂
