Teaching Kids and Growing Food at Suzie’s Farm

Suzie's Farm San Diego

A few weeks ago my family and I were invited to check out Suzie’s Farm. I had seen their stands at our local farmer’s market and loved their produce but didn’t realize just how local they were until we drove out to check them out.

Just a little south from us, nestled in, was Suzie’s Farm all laid out and ready for the kids to enjoy. The first thing they found was an awesome tree swing that I couldn’t get them off of. Right then I knew they’d have a blast.

And a blast they had! From learning about all of the crops they had planted this season, looking at the leaves and growing conditions, as well as checking out the fun chickens, my kids were in heaven.  [Read more…]

Clybourne Park at the @SanDiegoREP Lyceum Theater

This January, San Diego REP presents “Clybourne Park,” a comedy about race, class and real estate in America, written by Bruce Norris and directed by Sam Woodhouse. The winner of the 2012 Tony Award for Best Play, the 2011 Pulitzer Prize and the 2011 Olivier Award for Best Play “Clybourne Park” has jokes flying amidst hidden agendas.

Sam Woodhouse, artistic director, San Diego REP says: “Clybourne Park is the kind of provocative theatre that we love to do at San Diego REP audacious and a touch politically incorrect, fully engaged in the American debate about property and civil rights and very, very funny in surprising and astonishing ways.”

The Living Coast Discovery Center San Diego – An Adventure in our Backyard

Living Coast Discovery Center San Diego

Living Coast Discovery Center San Diego

I’ve lived in San Diego all my life and am still amazed when I find out about places I’ve never been before. When I first heard about the Living Coast Discovery Center San Diego while visiting their booth at the fair I was excited to find out how much they had to offer.

While we’ve been members of Sea World, currently have memberships at the San Diego Zoo and Birch Aquarium, and go to the museums and beaches whenever we can, we still crave new experiences. Especially when they’re only 10 minutes away from our house. The Living Coast Discovery Center offers this and more!

This weekend we headed out to the Discovery Center to participate in a VIP Experience. And boy did we feel like VIPs on our visit!

Are you expecting?

Childbirth education is a great way to understand the process of labor and childbirth, while reducing the stress during an exciting yet overwhelming time. And it gives the knowledge needed to make choices about how and where we choose to give birth. But for some parents-to-be it can be challenging to attend childbirth education classes.

I had a great experience with my childbirth class when I was pregnant with my son. Not only did it open my eyes to the availability of doulas in my area, I also learned some great ways to allow my husband to help me during childbirth. It made us grow as a couple before the arrival of our little one.

A Hammer, A Bell and A Song to Sing at the @SanDiegoREP Lyceum Theater

From the American Revolution to the Civil Rights Movement to the Occupy protests, music has served as a powerful agent of change in American history. Inspired by the songs and words of legendary activist Pete Seeger, “A Hammer, A Bell, and A Song to Sing” celebrates this history in song, story, and spoken word with more than 25 selections from multiple artists. Seeger’s grandson, Tao Seeger, said, “If we want to get people talking to each other, we should try to get them singing together.”

The original cast returns for this production, plus the addition of an additional vocalist: folk recording artist Dave Crossland, veteran stage and screen actor Vaughn Armstrong (“Star Trek”), San Diego favorite Jim Mooney and will be joined by a San Diego vocalist Lisa Payton to once again lead an entire theatre in song.
