Virgin Strawberry Basil Margarita Drink Recipe - a great way to bring summer flavors together in a delicious drink #SweetNLowStars

While summer is slowly coming to an end – omgosh! My kid is going to kindergarten in 4 weeks! – I want to enjoy all I can out of the fresh and flavorful summer flavors I love. And since I’m pregnant (did you catch my announcement?) I’ve been experimenting with a few virgin varieties of my favorite summertime drinks.

This weekend I decided to make some virgin margaritas. It’s the one thing I’ve been craving since finding out I was pregnant and I just couldn’t let it be. I went with the classic flavors at first but then I decided to use up some of the produce we had and made this delicious virgin strawberry basil margarita.  [Read more…]

Dog Safety for Kids 3 Great Tips for Training Your Dog

A dog can provide pet owners and their families with many years of joy, companionship, comfort, and love. However, not all dog breeds are the same. Each dog breed is known for its distinctive characteristics, whether it be for fighting, hunting, intensity, intelligence, wandering, and so forth. No matter what breed of dog you may introduce into your family, the safety of your kids around the dog should be your utmost concern.

After our daughter was bitten by our family dog (warning – graphic photos in post linked), we took dog training and dog safety for kids to heart and have continued to work with both our kids and our dog, Scout, to ensure that this doesn’t happen again.

Training your dog in an effective manner will provide you with a sense of security in having a dog as a family pet. Whether the dog is part of the family unit before the child arrives or afterwards, both will need to be taught rules, boundaries, as well as consequences. [Read more…]

Dental Care Tips for Parents

Dental Care Tips for Parents

Teaching a child about oral care can be like pulling teeth. They would rather go play with their friends, not brush their teeth. Considering your child will need those pearly whites for many years to come, it’s important that you help them take care of them now.

With help from Oral B – and the awesome Precision Black 7000 electric toothbrush I’ve been reviewing – I’ve been using my own new dental care routine and have noticed a huge difference in my daughter’s interest to brush her own teeth now that I’m visibly showing her my routine. here are a few dental care tips that may come in handy with kids!  [Read more…]

I shopped savvy and scored on huge back to school savings using Walmart Saving Catcher, as part of a sponsored post for Socialstars #SavingsCatcher

Back to School Savings with Walmart Savings Catcher #SavingsCatcher

My oldest is starting Kindergarten this year and I’m actually doing quite well with it. He’s ready. I’m ready. And we’re getting excited about the next year.

One thing that’ll be new to us is shopping for back to school supplies from a list the Kindergarten teacher provided for us.

Even before my kids went to school I always loved stocking up on back to school supplies during this time of year because of the huge discounts you can find. I’m also kinda obsessed with school supplies and love a well stocked craft area.  [Read more…]

Is your preschooler headed to back to school or to school for the first time? There are some things you can do to help prepare your child for the next couple of weeks.

As my son starts Kindergarten this year, my daughter will be starting her second year of preschool so while we prepare my son we’re also doing a few things to prepare my daughter.

5 Back to School Tips for Preschool Parents

#1. Get That Routine Started

You’re probably aware of how important a routine is for your preschooler. I have to say that the younger your children are then the more important a routine is. If your preschooler takes a nap, you may need to start phasing that out, so they’re not in shock as they approach the upcoming school year. [Read more…]

15 Quick and Easy Family Meals

With summer coming to an end (lets wipe away the tears) I have started to compile a list of great quick and easy family meals to keep on hand when school starts.

I know just how busy that time of year can get and I want to make sure we’re sticking with our budget and feeding the kids healthy meals at night. I’ve found that if I don’t have a plan I quickly turn to the easy option of calling the husband and having him pick something up.

By putting together all of my meals on Foodie I’ve been able to create a collection I can turn to whenever I start to meal plan!  [Read more…]

Great Car Care: How to Make an Old Car Run Like New

I spruced up my old car using Armor All products from Walmart, as part of a sponsored post featuring how to make an old car run like new for Socialstars #WalmartAuto

Great Car Care How to Make an Old Car Run Like New #WalmartAuto

It may come as a surprise to many but I still have my first vehicle. And it still runs great! But figuring out how to make an old car run like new didn’t come easily. It took a lot of regular checks and maintenance.

Luckily my husband came into my life shortly after I purchased my truck and helped me by reminding me of the fact that cars need things like oil changes regularly. I started to pay more attention to that little sticker that the oil change place put on my windshield.

And then when I hit a coyote on a late night driving home to the boonies and my truck was put out of commission he jumped at the chance to help fix and rebuild the truck. By learning more about the vehicle inside and out we were able to make sure it was getting everything it needed to stay in tip top condition once fixed.  [Read more…]

Packing the Protein for Breakfast plus an Almond Coconut Granola Recipe

Almond Coconut Granola Recipe

Over the years I’ve found that breakfast really is the most important meal of the day. So that means that choices made at breakfast need to be smart ones.

Something I always need in the mornings is a good protein packed fuel to get me going for the day.

But that doesn’t mean I want to eat eggs and breakfast meat everyday so I’ve been searching for some other healthy alternatives to keep me satisfied. Quick to prepare is an added bonus! [Read more…]
