Is there any better feeling than waking up Christmas morning to watch the joy on your child’s face as they open up a gift they’ve asked for all year long? I really don’t think there is. And for my little engineers, any gift that puts their mind to work and gets their hands involved is something they will have on their list.

I don’t know how it happened (ok, maybe I do) but both of my kids seem to have the drive to create and imagine up these crazy contraptions and inventions. So when I find gifts that will fill that need to work on something I snatch it up right away.

Winter Play Dates in San Diego with Gymboree 

One thing I’ve come to learn early on as a parent is the importance of play dates. And play dates in San Diego can be quite fun and exciting year round. From our great weather, to our amazing kid-friendly places all around town, San Diego is the place to be when you’re a kid.

Our favorite spot to be lately has been the San Diego Zoo. Not only is it a great place to explore, it’s also a fun and educational way to teach our kids about the many species of animals on this planet of ours.

Plus the fact that the zoo is right next to Balboa Park means we can enjoy a fun morning at the zoo then make our way to the museums (after snagging a bite to eat) in the afternoon! [Read more…]

Tis the season for gift making and gift giving. One of my favorite things to do is make homemade goodies to give out to family and friends. This year I’ve put together some fun ideas for a Christmas gift making party. Gather some friends around, put on some crock pot hot chocolate, and make some gifts for your friends to pass out to their loved ones.

One of my favorite snacks to bust out during the holidays – and a family tradition – are the Planters mixes. From their Brittle Nut Medley to their Winter Spiced Nuts, there’s a combination for everyone.

Last weekend we headed to Sea World to start a new family Christmas tradition. We were invited to attend a preview of the SeaWorld Christmas Celebration and boy was it fun!

With a whole line of Christmas-themed shows, real snow at SnowWorld®, beautiful lights everywhere AND Santa with reindeer games, our kids were in heaven. We let them plan the day out and gave them a list of the things we could do.

The best part was seeing the joy on their faces as they headed from one thing to another as they looked forward to their adventure. We’ll definitely be making the SeaWorld Christmas Celebration a tradition for our family.  [Read more…]

Getting my kids to clean anything, let alone their rooms, used to be a struggle. But then I started thinking smarter and have finally found a solution that works for us!

By making cleaning part of our daily routine and making it fun I’ve been in to tap into my kids inner creativity and let them take the lead when it comes to cleaning their rooms.

One thing I try and do is plan ahead and make sure I have everything on hand for these situations. Sometimes its as easy as a seasonal check in the medicine cabinet to remove expired products and stock up on stuff we’re missing.

We ran into a little problem last week. Our poor Scout got fleas for the first time in his 12 years and we had no clue where to start with treatment! Since we moved next to a home with 3 other dogs we knew it was a possibility but we were hoping we’d get lucky and not have to deal with it.

Luckily we were able to find some great ways to eradicate the situation and, hopefully, reduce the chance of fleas returning again in our home. But if they do, we’ll be ready!
