Pumpkin Pie Smoothie - a healthy, delicious way to drink pie #SweetNLowStars

Fall was in the air. For about a week. And then the high temperatures hit yet again. So in an effort to enjoy Fall without sweating to death I tested out a few pumpkin pie smoothie recipes to cool me down and still give me the pumpkin fix I was looking for.

Plus this smoothie is perfect as a quick breakfast for the kids. I threw it all together and blended up in less than 5 minutes! Much faster than pancakes or waffles.

With the natural sweetness of the banana and added guilt-free sweetness of Sweet’N Low I think I’ve found a winner with this one!

Star Wars Rebels Star Destroyer Inspired Paper Airplanes - a fun and easy way to let imagination reign and let kids be kids

Sometimes you have to just give into your inner kid, sit on the ground, and start making paper airplanes based off of your favorite movies and your son’s new favorite TV series.

That’s exactly what my husband did after we took home Star Wars Rebels on DVD last Friday. He even let my son pick out a Star Wars toy so that he’d stop playing with my husband’s Millennium Falcon and X-Wing fighters.

Luckily Walmart has a great selection of Hasbro Star Wars toys that piqued my son’s interest. He ended up deciding on a pretty sweet Star Wars Rebels Comand Star Destroyer Set. [Read more…]

Preserving Summer Memories: How to Make a Great Photo Book

I’m proud to partner with CVS/pharmacy for the “Summer Snapshots” Photo campaign featuring how to make a great photo book. All opinions expressed about CVS/pharmacy are my own.

Preserving Summer Memories How to Make a Great Photo BookIf you’re like me, and I’m sure most are, you probably take a lot of photos with your smart phone to share on social media or via text or email. But what do you do with your photos after you’ve taken them? Do you take the time to download, transfer, or even print them out?

Since my trip to CVS last month I’ve realized how easy it really is to turn those photos I post to Facebook or Instagram and create a fun memory book full of all of the moments I captured.

I shared how easy it is to make a photo book at CVS but didn’t go into the details of what to include in a photo book to preserve those summer memories. Below I’ve outlined a few tips that have helped streamline the photo book process for me.  [Read more…]

Medicine Cabinet Must-Haves

This post and giveaway are brought to you by Mentholatum® Nighttime Vaporizing Rub

What’s in your medicine cabinet? Most people stock commonly used items right up front: thermometer, lotions, bandages and ibuprofen. And, toward the back you may find a jar of chest rub that’s been around for years. Now there’s a reason to give chest rub a spot in the front row.

The Mentholatum Company talked to consumers to find out exactly why chest rub wasn’t a go-to cold relief product. Dissatisfaction with the fragrance was a major complaint. Users wanted a product that would bring relief for coughing and chest and muscle aches, but with the added benefit of a pleasant smell. New Mentholatum® Nighttime Vaporizing Rub was formulated with the soothing scent of lavender to address these concerns.

People have been claiming the therapeutic benefits of lavender for thousands of years, and herbalists value it for its calming and soothing properties. Its name comes from the Latin word lavare, meaning “to wash,” but its uses go far beyond the act of cleaning. Today you’ll find lavender as an ingredient or fragrance in many popular products.

Black Beans and Rice with Sausage

Black Beans and Rice with Sausage - a quick and easy dish that's perfect for any night of the week!

As many know, I love a good bottle of wine. But with this pregnancy I’ve had to find more useful ways of incorporating wine into my life. Luckily I was recently sent two bottles of Oberon wine, a Sauvignon Blanc and a Cabernet Sauvignon. And I knew exactly how to use one of them!

This black beans and rice with sausage recipe is one of my favorites and is full of flavor. It takes only a few minutes to throw together into a pan and about 20 minutes of simmering on low.

I served this to a few friends for lunch one afternoon and paired it with the Oberon 2013 Sauvignon Blanc for the non-pregnant women. They were quite delighted with the flavor and how it paired with this dish.  [Read more…]

Candy Corn Inspired Tablescape + a Starburst Wrapper Napkin Ring Tutorial

Fall is FINALLY in the air (it was actually 65 this morning when I dropped the kids off!) and that means I’m ready to bust out the Fall and Halloween decor to get the house ready for the kick off of the holiday season.

It doesn’t matter that it’s still 80 degrees in the afternoon. It’s time to push Summer aside and welcome Fall with open arms.

Last year I made these candy corn candles so this year I wanted to create a full tablescape inspired by them. [Read more…]

BBQ Ranch Chicken and Rice Casserole - a delicious budget friendly meal for under $20

Budget friendly meals are a must for this family. After purchasing a new house and the added expenses of having a child in private school and another in preschool, I prefer to plan a little and make the most of my pantry staples and weekly grocery trips to create meal plans each week.

Keeping dinner under $20 is especially important in between paydays. Times can be tight before the 1st and 15th of the month so a well stocked pantry and a plan have allowed me to save big without losing on well-balanced meals for my family.  [Read more…]

San Diego Restaurant Week is Here – September 21 – 26, 2014 | The Oceanaire Seafood Room Review

San Diego Restaurant Week - Oceanaire Seafood Room Review

San Diego Restaurant Week is one of our favorite weeks of the year. Not only do we get to step outside of our normal eateries and try something new but we also get to choose what we want to try based on our budget that week.

At the beginning of the year I attended a preview of San Diego Restaurant Week to enjoy bites from a few different places but this year I was asked to head out to a restaurant to enjoy their restaurant week menu a week early.

I was excited to try a new-to-me restaurant, The Oceanaire Seafood Room in Downtown San Diego, and had a fabulous date night with my husband while enjoying delicious food.  [Read more…]
