Winter Play Dates in San Diego with Gymboree

One thing I’ve come to learn early on as a parent is the importance of play dates. And play dates in San Diego can be quite fun and exciting year round. From our great weather, to our amazing kid-friendly places all around town, San Diego is the place to be when you’re a kid.

Our favorite spot to be lately has been the San Diego Zoo. Not only is it a great place to explore, it’s also a fun and educational way to teach our kids about the many species of animals on this planet of ours.

Plus the fact that the zoo is right next to Balboa Park means we can enjoy a fun morning at the zoo then make our way to the museums (after snagging a bite to eat) in the afternoon! [Read more…]

SeaWorld Christmas Celebration: Creating Family Christmas Traditions

SeaWorld's Christmas Celebration - Creating Family Christmas Traditions

Last weekend we headed to Sea World to start a new family Christmas tradition. We were invited to attend a preview of the SeaWorld Christmas Celebration and boy was it fun!

With a whole line of Christmas-themed shows, real snow at SnowWorld®, beautiful lights everywhere AND Santa with reindeer games, our kids were in heaven. We let them plan the day out and gave them a list of the things we could do.

The best part was seeing the joy on their faces as they headed from one thing to another as they looked forward to their adventure. We’ll definitely be making the SeaWorld Christmas Celebration a tradition for our family.  [Read more…]

San Diego Restaurant Week is Here – September 21 – 26, 2014 | The Oceanaire Seafood Room Review

San Diego Restaurant Week - Oceanaire Seafood Room Review

San Diego Restaurant Week is one of our favorite weeks of the year. Not only do we get to step outside of our normal eateries and try something new but we also get to choose what we want to try based on our budget that week.

At the beginning of the year I attended a preview of San Diego Restaurant Week to enjoy bites from a few different places but this year I was asked to head out to a restaurant to enjoy their restaurant week menu a week early.

I was excited to try a new-to-me restaurant, The Oceanaire Seafood Room in Downtown San Diego, and had a fabulous date night with my husband while enjoying delicious food.  [Read more…]

Teaching Kids and Growing Food at Suzie’s Farm

Suzie's Farm San Diego

A few weeks ago my family and I were invited to check out Suzie’s Farm. I had seen their stands at our local farmer’s market and loved their produce but didn’t realize just how local they were until we drove out to check them out.

Just a little south from us, nestled in, was Suzie’s Farm all laid out and ready for the kids to enjoy. The first thing they found was an awesome tree swing that I couldn’t get them off of. Right then I knew they’d have a blast.

And a blast they had! From learning about all of the crops they had planted this season, looking at the leaves and growing conditions, as well as checking out the fun chickens, my kids were in heaven.  [Read more…]

Date Night Out at Cafe 21 San Diego

Cafe 21 San Diego - Gaslamp

My husband and I are very serious about date night. We make sure to get out, just the two of us, at least once a month and have even invested in theater tickets for the next season at Broadway San Diego to ensure that we have a standing date night for most months of the year.

So when we were invited to try out Cafe 21 San Diego just blocks away from the San Diego Civic Theater I knew we needed to try it out! We’re always on the hunt for fabulous restaurants around the downtown area and have heard amazing things about Cafe 21.

As soon as we walked in we felt a warm and inviting presence. The decor was clean and creative and definitely fit the food and the staff. We also noticed some purse trees next to the tables to help keep the ladies purses off the ground and the back of their seats.  [Read more…]

Relax and Indulge at Spa Velia San Diego

Spa Velia San Diego

The past few weeks have been hectic. Travel, work, the kids, and everything in between. So when I was asked to check out Spa Velia San Diego and tour the beautiful new location on Harbor Drive, right across from the convention center, I knew it would be the perfect way to relax and enjoy some time to myself.

When I arrived I noticed just how close it was to the Convention Center and the trolley stopped right in front. I may or may not be taking advantage of it’s proximity during Comic Con while my husband waits in long lines for Hall H.

The spa was beautiful inside and out and the staff were lovely. I truly felt pampered from the moment I stepped in the door. [Read more…]

Why We Wait In Line For Donut Bar San Diego

Donut Bar San Diego Line Outside

Last Sunday we headed downtown (about 10 minutes from our house) to visit Donut Bar San Diego for the second time. The first time was so much fun we thought we’d give it a go again… and try more flavors!

So why did we wait in line for a donut place? No, it’s not because we’re crazy. It’s because it was worth it. And we really love donuts.

Not only is Donut Bar a great place to stop for an awesome donut, they have great coffee and waffless too. Yeah… my husband was pretty sold on the waffles.  [Read more…]

Enjoying a Seaside Wellness Weekend Getaway in Del Mar

This seaside wellness weekend getaway in Del Mar was sponsored by the Del Mar Tourism Business Improvement District.

Enjoying a Seaside Wellness Weekend Getaway in Del Mar

As a couple my husband and I try to reconnect with one another quite often through date nights. But sometimes a couple really needs to get out. So when we were asked to enjoy a couples weekend getaway in Del Mar, I knew it would be a great way for my husband and I to enjoy each other’s company without the kids in tow.

A staycation so close to home is not only convenient, but is close enough that if we needed to we could have come home to the kids at any moment. However this staycation we were able to enjoy all of it alone. And it was awesome.

We were invited to stay at the quaint, unique Secret Garden Inn owned by Sulana Sae-onge and John Halper. John has hand-built the rooms and Sulana designed the interiors to match their names beautifully. The Secret Garden Inn’s secluded Tuscany, Oriental and Balinese decorated rooms cater to any romantic setting. The Penthouse suite is a honeymooner’s paradise with an expansive patio and outdoor fireplace.

The Ultimate Girls Night Out: Celebrating My 30th in Style

The Ultimate Girls Night Out - Celebrating my 30th

Last month I celebrated my 30th birthday with the ultimate girls night out. I’ve been talking about how I was going to celebrate my 30th for the past year and finally I decided on an awesome night out with my friends at a great restaurant.

I made sure that everyone had rides to and from the restaurant and that the whole meal was taken care of so all my friends had to do was show up. My husband chauffeured most of us (his idea!) and surprised me by gifting each of my friends a cute favor that was left at the restaurant before we got there.

A girls night out is comprised of a lot of things but it always starts with getting ready… [Read more…]

Where to Enjoy Easter Brunch in San Diego 2014

Easter is a wonderful time to gather with family and rejoice. And after we enjoy Mass as a family we love enjoying an Easter brunch. Depending on the year, sometimes we enjoy a morning out with Easter brunch in San Diego.

There are so many wonderful places hosting Easter brunch here in San Diego. Everyone can find a place suited to their family’s liking. The only thing I suggest is to call ahead and make reservations (or purchase tickets) if available.
