I absolutely love a good, hearty bread with a bowl of soup when it’s cold outside. And this week it’s gotten pretty chilly! So when I stumbled upon this delicious Apple Cheddar Quick Bread recipe over at Simply Stacie I knew I needed to try it.

From it’s deliciously soft inside to the crunchy crust on the outside, this is the perfect comfort food to go alongside your favorite warm dish. And it’s so easy to throw together!

In true Danielle fashion, though, I did make a few changes to the recipe to tweak it a bit to our liking. Our version is below but I highly suggest checking out Stacie’s too! [Read more…]

Holiday Baking with Land o’ Lakes Butter {Gingerbread Cake Recipe}

I am a member of the Collective Bias®  Social Fabric® Community.  This Land o’ Lakes butter shop and gingerbread recipe have been compensated as part of a social shopper insights study for Collective Bias and its client.

Gingerbread cake - This gingerbread cake is not only full of spices and yum, it's also not overly sweet. It goes great with a nice cup of coffee or a scoop of ice cream. The holidays are here and my kitchen is in full gear for all of the holiday baking that’s going to be done over the next two months. Luckily I stocked up on butter and the rest of my needed pantry staples so that I can whip up whatever I need when the time comes.

Since I’ve been hosting quite a few playdates I wanted to test out a great cake recipe that wasn’t too sweet. My husband and I love baking and the number one rule in our home (and a little inside joke with the husband) is that our fridge can never be without butter.

While we were at Walmart picking up a few crafting items for my daughter’s upcoming birthday I jokingly asked my husband if he was sure we had butter in the house. He sighed, rolled his eyes, and ran to go grab a 4-pack.  [Read more…]

Before my love of coffee came my love of tea. Growing up my nanny and dad would always start their day off with a hot cup of tea and if I was lucky I could usually get them to make me one too. More cream and sugar than tea but still…

So when one of my favorite tea companies asked if I was interested in featuring two of their gift products in my holiday gift guide I couldn’t help but jump for joy and immediately say yes.

Mighty Leaf is a company I’m very familiar with. My husband loves the Mighty Leaf iced black tea that they serve at Nordstrom Cafe so much that he tried to hunt it down in the individual packs only to find out that it was sold in bulk. So what did he do? He chatted with the manager at the cafe and was able to purchase some for home right from Nordstrom.

Now I’m easy, I stick to the varieties of Mighty Leaf that I can find on store shelves. [Read more…]

Lemon Tartlets

Lemon Tartlets portrait

Every month I host a playdate at my house for my playgroup. It’s a great way for moms to get together and enjoy each other’s company while the kids play with each other. It also gives newcomers to the group a chance to feel welcomed in without having to search a park or other location for a group they aren’t familiar with.

So when two new friends arrived at my door for our latest playdate and one’s hands were filled with these amazingly delicious lemon tartlets I knew they’d fit right in! And they did.

Of course after polishing off a few of these bad boys I had to ask for the recipe and luckily my friend had no problems sharing it with me. This dessert is so simple to prepare and great for parties and get togethers. [Read more…]

For major holidays like Christmas and Thanksgiving we always go all out with our meals. And that includes the dinner rolls. No store bought rolls for our family. But that also means that we keep it simple with the ingredients and the process.

So with Thanksgiving right around the corner I thought I’d share my favorite no-knead dinner rolls recipe!

These no-knead dinner rolls are not only easy to make but take hardly any prep time at all! Plus you can keep them in the fridge overnight and bake them up right before dinnertime so they’re fresh from the oven when you need them. [Read more…]

Healthy Pumpkin Muffins

Pumpkin Muffins cooling rack

So maybe it’s become an obsession. But I’m pretty darn in love with pumpkin about now. The one thing that makes the cool crisp weather better are these healthy pumpkin muffins with a cup of hot coffee.

Simple to make, tasty, and a favorite amongst my playgroup, these muffins really hit the spot.

I drizzled a simple mix of powdered sugar, milk, and pumpkin pie spice over the top for a little extra sweetness. It definitely made the muffins tastier. [Read more…]

The Perfect Party Pleaser – Marble Bundt Cake

Marble Bundt Cake

There’s nothing better than a moist, delicious cake to celebrate the birthday of a loved one! And this cake is my husband’s favorite. His birthday has already come and gone and this recipe has been sitting here waiting to be shared since April. Yeah, I know.. I’m a bit behind.

But I figured now was a good time to share this delicious recipe and maybe make a few alterations as we head into Fall. I’m thinking a little swirl of pumpkin instead of the chocolate would be a nice addition. And maybe a maple cream cheese icing? Mmmm…

If you’re looking for the perfect marble bundt cake for a party or just want to enjoy some delicious dessert, try this recipe. You won’t be disappointed! But don’t go easy in greasing your pan or else you might have to turn this cake into a trifle. [Read more…]

Orange and Plum Turnovers with Filo Dough

Orange and Plum Turnovers

I’m always up for a challenge. So when my good friend Amanda of The Frugal Greenish Mama asked if I had any plum recipes to share – and I didn’t – I thought I’d better get on the ball! I had never baked with plums before and honestly never thought of it. Plums in our house were for eating, not baking. And they never seemed to last long enough to need an alternative.

Everywhere I read seemed to suggest cooking the plums with some sort of combination of spices and sugar first and then stuffing it in whatever you choose to make. Since I like easy I decided to use the filo dough I purchased the week before in an attempt to use two ingredients I’d never tackled in the kitchen. Yup… that’s right. I’ve never used filo dough either!

The results? Super tasty! I’m so glad I had leftover filling I could jar up and use again because this was delicious. Flaky, with a hint of sweetness, and the perfect combination of orange and plum flavor. [Read more…]

Root Beer Float Cupcakes

Root Beer Float Cupcakes1

This past week I hosted a fun Root Beer Float Party with my family and in celebration I decided to bake some root beer float cupcakes to go with our floats.

These cupcakes are simple and taste great! Plus they’re half the fat than if you made them from the box. Now that’s pretty awesome.

The whipped cream topping does start to melt pretty quickly so try to hold off on topping the cupcakes until just before serving.
