Touch Feel and Explore at SeaWorld San Diego Explorers Reef

Last weekend my family and I were invited to check out a sneak peek of the new Explorer’s Reef at SeaWorld San Diego. Not only did we get an up close look at the new entrance to the park, we also got to touch, feel, and explore all of the animals in Explorer’s Reef.

From the moment we arrived at the new entrance to Sea World I knew the kids would have a blast! And boy did they. With four salt and sea water tanks filled with sea life friends, the kids were in for a treat.

They were able to go from one tank to another to explore the feeder fish, horseshoe crabs, rays, and shark pups. Throughout the whole experience they both had huge grins on their faces. [Read more…]

How to Help Your Preschooler Learn The Alphabet

One of the biggest things we’re working on right now with our kids is learning the alphabet. From their curriculum at preschool to what is done at home, we’re always thinking of how to help your preschooler learn the alphabet.

Since my son is entering kindergarten in the Fall I want to make sure that he has every opportunity to explore the alphabet and get a head start on what he’ll be learning in the classroom.

I also need to make sure I’m making it fun for him too. Because if he isn’t interested, he isn’t going to participate at all! [Read more…]

Bubble Gum Valentine Printable – Perfect for Preschoolers!

Over the years we’ve gotten a bit creative with our valentines and this year is no different. I let the kids decide what they want to pass out (within reason) and then we start creating. So when my daughter said she wanted to pass out bubble gum, I knew this bubble gum valentine printable would come in handy.

Last year we made some cutie valentines and car valentines so this year I wanted to stick with the no-candy theme. My son will be making his dinosaur themed valentines this weekend so stay tuned for those!

Everything I used for these valentines were found at Target. The foam hearts were on an end cap in the party supplies section and the gum was in the snack aisle. And? These took like 10 minutes to put together!

10 Holiday Stocking Stuffer Ideas from Dollar Tree

One thing I absolutely love seeing my family open every year are their stockings. While Santa usually brings a few traditional items that are always included as stocking stuffers, he also throws in some fun goodies that the kids can play with and enjoy the morning of Christmas.

In an effort to reduce the amount Santa spends this year, we’ve decided to ask Santa for one big item each and then let him decide on a few smaller items for the stockings. So we headed out to one of my kids’ favorite stores, Dollar Tree, and checked out what they had in store for us this year.

And what do you know? We found plenty of awesome ideas for Santa! From board books, to dolls, do bugs and snakes, there was plenty at the Dollar Tree to keep my kids occupied. They even had stockings to purchase in case we didn’t have ours already. What a great idea for wrapping a gift!

Oh, and did I mention that for one of my family’s get togethers we’re planning on grabbing 5 things we love from Dollar Tree and wrapping those in lieu of our Secret Santa gift exchange? We’ll do it White Elephant style and everyone goes home with 5 new things! I can’t wait to go shopping and see what I find. [Read more…]

Exploring the Boston Museum of Science {Boston Trip Day 2}

On day 2 in Boston we decided to explore the city a bit more and took advantage of our City Passes. First stop was the Boston Museum of Science where we explored the various exhibits they had on display, played in the kids Discovery Center, and watched an electrifying lightning show.

The kids absolutely loved the experience and asked to go again almost every other day we were in Boston. This is a must visit museum if you have kids. From gears to dinosaurs to bugs and more, there’s something for everyone. [Read more…]

DIY Butterfly Costume

When we asked my daughter what she wanted to be for Halloween a few months back she quickly answered that she wanted to be a butterfly.

When we asked again a few weeks later, you know… just to be sure, she still confirmed that she wanted to be a butterfly. So I got to searching different designs, patterns, fabrics, etc. and scouring Pinterest.

Then she took it upon herself to figure out her own costume. And it cost us $5 out of pocket. That $5? Was for the wings. Everything else she dragged out of her closet.

And she LOVES how it turned out. Don’t you? Now to get started on my son’s dinosaur costume… That’ll probably take more time. [Read more…]

Kids Reptile Birthday Party (San Diego)

On Friday my baby, my first born, will be 4 years old. And I cannot believe how fast time has flown by!

My boy is kind, curious, funny, and constantly moving. He is smart as a whip and picks up on everything and loves his little sister dearly.

For his 4th birthday party my son insisted on having dinosaurs. But since his 3rd birthday party was a dino party we tried to think of variations that would fit his interest. And he decided on reptiles.

Since he’s obsessed with reptiles, bugs, and really anything creepy crawly (he’s the kid digging in your garden for earth worms and other critters) it was perfect!

How to Make Valentines With PicMonkey

A few weeks back I shared my love of PicMonkey with you all with a quick tutorial on how to make Subway Art using PicMonkey. Well I’m back again proclaiming my love but this time with all of the new Valentine’s Day options PicMonkey has available to use!

Now you don’t need to purchase ANYTHING to use PicMonkey. It’s completely free. But if you want to take advantage of the Royale features you can pay $33/year for access to everything. How awesome is that?

Using the new Valentine’s Day features like swatches, ribbons, and fonts, I was able to create some simple and cute valentines for my kids to pass out at their preschool. With PicMonkey I was able to create what I wanted in less than 15 minutes of playing around. Once I was done I assembled the valentines and am now set for the big day!

Want to learn how to make valentines with PicMonkey? Well keep reading and you’ll find out!

1. Just like in the Subway Art tutorial I’ve shared previously, we’re going to start by clicking on “Create a Collage” first. Remove all cells but one from the collage. This will be your template. Adjust the size accordingly if you want larger or smaller valentines.

2. Go to the “Swatches” tab and choose a background that you like. Save this collage as your base photo to edit.

3. Click on “Edit a Photo” and open up your collage photo. Go to the Overlays tab and choose an overlay you want to use. Feel free to change the color to whatever you’d like. Add a few embellishments like the ribbon I used or some hearts.

4. Add your saying on the overlay. Feel free to play with different fonts and colors to liven up your valentine! Once your done, save your photo to be used later.

5. To print your photo simply open up a Word document and insert the photo (or two).

Don’t want to make your own and want to simply use mine? Print out this PDF and cut with a small white border around the valentine (you can also click on the photo above for the PDF). Follow these instructions on how to assemble your valentine and you’re set!
